J. William Greene
J. William Greene (b. 1956) is a native of western North Carolina and was educated at Appalachian State University, Northwestern University, and the Eastman School of Music, where he received a Doctor of Musical Arts degree and a Performer's Certificate in organ. His primary teachers included H. Max Smith, Wolfgang Rüat;bsam, and Russell Saunders. Greene has taught music at Appalachian State University, Nazareth College, and Ithaca College. In addition to his training as an organist, Greene developed a passion for the harpsichord and spent a year studying that instrument with Gustav Leonhardt in the Netherlands under an ITT Fellowship. He then pursued a Masters degree in harpsichord at the Eastman School, studying with Arthur Haas. As a composer, Greene has written and published more than 150 keyboard and choral works. He currently serves as Organist-Choirmaster at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Lynchburg, Virginia.
